Bob Miller: Father of the Bride AFTER His Saturday Morning Swim

Saturday, November 22, 2008, Huntington, NY

Think back to Saturday morning, 11/22/2008 -- it was a typical Saturday morning. A 3,000 yard workout in the Huntington "Y" pool, (okay some did more and some did less but 3,000 is a pretty average distance), followed by a quick shower, a well deserved breakfast... and then off with the Speedo and on with the Tux

Wait a minute, that "on with the Tux" is certainly not your typical Saturday! And so it wasn't an ordinary Saturday for Bob who after his swim workout, (what dedication -- or was it just a great way to keep the nerves in check!), hustled on home to Pat and the girls, put on his Tux, (he cleans up real good -- doesn't he?), and got ready to escort his daughter Kristen down the aisle of the Old First Church

The picture above was taken at home before the ride to the Church and I must admit everybody looks pretty calm -- was it the pre-planning or the fact that the girls were delighted to get the "man of their lives" out of the house and down to the "Y" for a pre-wedding swim. Neither Lauren, Kristen or Pat would comment and Bob was just happy to get his Saturday Swim in -- but, who wouldn't be happy about a Saturday morning swim!

Harry and Greg in Bermuda

What a perfect day to post this picture! Tuesday, November 25, 2008 dawned gloomy, cold and wet in New York. The EXACT opposite of the sunny, warm and the aquamarine wet that Harry and Greg had in Bermuda during the Escape To Bermuda Triathlon in early November. Thanks, and a tip of the swim cap to Greg for sending me these two pictures -- it makes me yearn for Summer's Open Water Swims -- and it's not even Thanksgiving yet!

Now, I know that I'm just a one-sport kind-of guy (swimming) but aren't you supposed to wear sneakers when you bike and run? Check out the barefoot boy below.
Greg, do you have any comments? Is this a new race strategy?
Or, perhaps Greg is just a big Zola Budd fan!

25th Annual Huntington YMCA Swimmers' Holiday Brunch

This year's event will be held at the Black Forest Brew Haus on Smith Street in Farmingdale (again...sorry...but we get a great deal and a wonderful venue). The food is excellent with a 100 foot buffet and unlimited Bloody Marys and Mimosas.
The time is noon on Sunday, December 14th. Total cost per person is $30 which includes tax and tip. Please sign up at the Y or by e-mail to me, (Bob Miller), ASAP. You must pay in advance (to Bob Miller or Mike Engel) as we have to guarantee the number of people who will attend. The last day to sign up - and PAY! -- is Wednesday, December 10th. Seating is limited.
You don't have to be a Masters swimmer to attend...lap swimmers, triathletes, water walkers, couch potatoes, spouses, significant others and Y staff are all invited.
Any questions or if you need directions, please feel free to respond to Bob's original email.

Hope to see you there!

Escape To Bermuda Olympic Triathlon - St. Georges, Bermuda November 2, 2008

Escape to Bermuda covered the islands of Bermuda from west to east. The course began with a one-mile swim at the Royal Naval Dockyard. Competitors swim through warm turquoise waters into the King’s Stairs below the Dockyard Clock tower. After transition, the Bike Course takes the athletes along South Road 24 miles across the entire span of Bermuda and past some of the most scenic views and vistas in the world.

The six-mile run begins and ends in King’s Square in the historic town of St. George’s. The run is demanding as it follows the unforgiving hills and winding roads through St. George’s Parish.

Here are our local Huntington results:

Name Time age group overall

Greg Linakis     2:35:37   2nd   38th

Harry Slutter     3:03:07          9th*           95th

*Nice job by Harry after crashing on the bike and then having a moped run into him -- maybe somebody should have had their Dark and Stormy AFTER the race!
